What is the difference between power scooter and power wheelchair?
Power Scooter- The steering system is a tiller system that is in front of the customer. Customers should be able to maintain postural stability and be able to operate the tiller system for steering. Power Wheelchair- The control is a joystick located on the arm rest. This is for customers who cannot maintain postural stability or use the tiller system. The power wheelchairs also have a smaller turning radius for tight spaces.
Does insurance cover power mobility?
Yes, insurance will cover power mobility for use in the home and must be medically necessary to complete mobility related activities of daily living (MRADLs), such as getting to the bathroom and/or kitchen.
